PETER CASEY B. Ed. (Mus.)
Artistic Director

Peter, a graduate of Melbourne State College with a voice major, sang with the Victoria State Opera Chorus and performed in many of their major productions.  He understudied several roles and sang the role of Spoletta in a schools performance of Tosca.  For Opera Australia he has performed in Lohengrin, Turandot, Wozzeck, Billy Budd, Pelleas et Melisande, Beatrice and Benedick, and he was one of the Apprentices in The Meistersingers of Nuremberg. In concert he has sung as a soloist in Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Pierné‘s The Children’s Crusade for the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Society, and  the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra’s choir for their performance of Purcell’s Come Ye Sons of Art at the Melbourne International Festival.

Peter has also performed regularly in recital, often recording for 3MBS FM.

Peter is an accomplished choral conductor, having studied with Robert Rosen, and he was appointed Music Director of the Choir in 1987. Peter has led the Choir on several overseas tours, including two concert tours of the United States and two tours of Europe.  He has prepared the Choir for many performances with the Melbourne Symphony and directed the children’s chorus in a performance of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony at the Exhibition Building in 2001.

PHILIP CARMODY B.Ed(Mus)
Artistic Director

Philip studied music at Melbourne College of Advanced Education where he majored in piano. Formerly Director of Music at Tintern Anglican Girls' Grammar School, he took up the position of Head of Chapel Music and Choral Studies at Melbourne Grammar School in 1999. Philip won the 1998 Best Music Director Award from the Theatre Guild for Whitehorse Music Theatre's production of Man of La Mancha. He was musical director in 2000 for their production of The Secret Garden, their 2004 production of Les Miserables and currently working with their 2006 production of Beauty and the Beast. Philip has accompanied a diverse range of performers including Judy Connelli, John O'May, Eileen Hannan and Stuart Wagstaff. He is also an organist at St Francis Church, Lonsdale Street.

ROBYN COCHRANE B.Mus. A.Mus.A.
Accompanist

Robyn studied piano and accompanying at the University of Melbourne where she was twice awarded the Maude Harrington Prize for accompanying. In addition to her work with the National Boys Choir Robyn works at Southwood Boys' Grammar School as teacher of piano and theory, accompanist and Music Secretary. She is also employed as a recital accompanist at the Melba Conservatorium.
ALEXANDRA BOEMO B.Ed.(Cr.Arts)
Coordinator and Conductor of Junior & Elementary Choristers

Alex studied piano for twelve years with Marta Rostas, followed by four years with Trevor Barnard at Melbourne State College. After graduation she was appointed Director of Music at Kilmaire College in Hawthorn, where she established an instrumental programme and an award winning Chamber Choir.

Alex teaches piano privately, accompanies students preparing for exams, and works as Assistant Producer for the Melbourne Gang Show. She also writes liturgical music, and works with several Primary schools developing choral work and musical productions.

RUTH TENACE B.Ed(Music), M.Ed.
Elementary and Junior Accompanist
Ruth studied piano under the late Margaret Schofield, followed by four years with Trevor Barnard during her studies at Melbourne State College. After graduating, Ruth began her music teaching career at Killester College and she later moved to Our Lady of Mercy College, Heidelberg, where she became Performing Arts Coordinator until taking maternity leave.

Ruth is currently employed as a music teacher at Boroondara Park Primary School where she teaches from Prep to Grade 6, and she also conducts the senior choir and school orchestra.

Peter Finnigan B. Ed. Grad Dip RE. M. Ed (c.)
Elementary and Junior Chorister Tutor

Mr Finnigan studied choral performance and technique under Australian organist and choir director John Mallinson while spending six years in the renowned Choir of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne.  As Principal of St Virgil’s Primary School in Hobart, he founded an award winning boys’ treble choir, which took out first place in every eisteddfod in southern Tasmania for the next five years.  In 2001 he re-established the Boys’ Choir of St Mary’s Cathedral Hobart.  

In 2002 he travelled through the United States, Africa, Europe, and the United Kingdom where he completed choral workshops at King’s College Cambridge, St Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Cathedrals London.  He has sung tenor for the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the National Boys’ Choir and presently sings for the Melbourne Chorale Ensemble.  

Mr Finnigan has close to twenty years experience working with primary and middle school boys and is currently the Year 7 Coordinator at St Kevin’s College Toorak.
