The National Boys Choir of Australia is a not for profit incorporated association overseen by a Management Committee.  It is a non denominational organisation with around 200 boys who join at approximately seven and leave when their voice changes.  They come from a wide range of ethnic and social backgrounds and work under the artistic direction of Peter Casey and Philip Carmody.

The Choir has a long and rich history spanning over forty years.  Founded in 1964, the Choir has established itself as one of Australia’s finest treble choirs.   Choristers develop vocal production based on the traditional bel canto style.

The Choir aims to create a musical community committed to providing choristers with:

  •  An excellent choral music education
  • A love of singing
  • The opportunity for music and performance to contribute to their all round education for life, including self-discipline, self-confidence and interpersonal skills
  • Leadership opportunities

Choristers move through a two year training programme where they develop the skills and confidence required to sing with the Performing Choir.

The level of commitment and self-discipline expected of the choristers is high.  Choral training enables boys to present challenging repertoires with music ranging from early motets through to contemporary commissioned works and fully staged children’s operas, as well as musical comedy, art songs and folk songs from many lands.

The Choir tours regularly; internationally every two or three years and nationally in other years.
